Altic, god of the winter skies

hey yow yows :)

i have an update on the fabulous Altic that keeps being mentioned, i figured ill show what i have so far, geometry is done, rigging just needs tweaking and textures also.

then further animations.

as everyone hopefully knows, Altic is the god of the neth, it created the crystal trees that supply the neth with their power. it also is the reason for the eternal winter, its presence is whats causing the freezing.

Altic is pretty scary looking unit, but in the game it serves as a guide, occasionally appearing and givving hints as to what to do.

kinda like the owl from the first zelda, but less irritating, more scary, it cant talk and more omnipotent.. :P

here is is in all its gross unfinnished glory ::P

Altic, god of the winter skies

and here is a stock image of a neth cave drawing-esque depiction as Altic calls creating thunder:

  2. Does it shoot lasers? or lightning maybe? coz that would be awesome XD

  3. well the idea is that is creates lightning by its call, so yeah it shoots lightning bolts when it screeches, this is simply my idea as to how it could attack, also doing freezing breath / wind shockwave attacks, ect.. would work if we wished.

but the implementation of all this is pivoted around josh's idea of how altic works, originally it was to be a high end boss you could battle, but now im fairly sure altic see's no combat, so the lightning call / SHOOP DA WOOP!!! might never be used / even implemented because it is not necesary

..would be pretty bad ass though :P

  6. as for the end boss...perhaps the entire reason the Altic is reviling its self to is maybe .... theres another Altic thats needs to be defeated or... the neth'nakkra are trying to capture it or... start a new belief we need some sort of reason to have the Altic to interact with the player it should want something from us.... suggestions

  7. oooooohhhh

well actually Altic was originally just gonna be a high altitue bird, kinda like an eagle of mountains, the two other gods i had thought of were named "Rauk" god of the mountain, it was a giant... umm think like a sandslash pokemon but dark and its back was covered with extruding standing stones (could relace with crystals), some of which the neth had carved things into and adorned it and such its hard to explain but it was a pretty epic concept, ill show on monday yo

the other "Viracocha" was when we were doing the "hell's army" idea, it was basically a frill necked lizard - dragon - demon - god, its frill was all tattered and ripped and from behind it a large plume of flames pours out.

but i know no corny dragons :P

umm the neth'nakkra / giraden could be attempting to resurect an old god probably Rauk would be best imo, but hey. and you must defeat it, Altic allows you to mount it and you are given control of Altic and are able to use its abilities (fly around, fire voleys of lightning, create thunder claps with your wings) as you must defeat Rauk/Viracocha before they succeed in making him immortal. would be a pretty epic end game XD

    reasonably difficult to program though.
    but anyways

i think it would be best if the neth giraden resurected the god, being in the slightly warmer climate and rauk is an earth god, and because the nakkra dont really have a reason to. also it would blur the lines between deffinative good and evil (which i like to do)

either that or the nakkra are power hungry and want a god specifically on their side (hence why they adorn it)

  8. perhaps the mountains have ages ice, earth, fire with different kinds of neth to accommodate and the diffrent "gods" have made an oath to surrender their age, but maybe one of the other "gods" wants to jump in early and the Altic wants your help to stop the fast track on the next age the old one could warn you of this... hows that?

  9. Haha! epic Ozzy, now i really do want to see Zapdos and Moltres come in from the sky and start fighting!

I'm a little lost though. Altic helps guide the player with a telepathic connection? but does that make Altic good ? or is Altic using the player only to betray him towards the end where he would become the final boss?

If Altic does guide the player i think it would be awesome if the player could use Altic himself to get through obstacles. E.g. While Altic is flying through the sky scouting over the mountains feeding you information and guiding you, if you come across a path that has been blocked off by a rock you can select it, and then call Altic which will then open up a cut scene of him flying down and using lightening to smash the rock out of the way. Altic could also use the fact that it is kind of connected to everything to communicate with the environment, like if you have a giant root system in the way, you can call upon Altic in the skies and it will squark or sing a melody which will communicate with the root systems telling it to move away.

    Just possible ideas? :]

  10. i dont want the Altic too involved with the player after all the neth worship it and they dont get to see much the Altic knows that the player can help with its problems also wanting to avoid a whole situation with neth favoritism not to mention we might kill our programmers with all the extra work but i like the idea tho again we need can come back to stuff like this if we have spare time

  11. not a bad idea josh! would be hard to explain i think maybe, but my story is also.. are the neth subject to the changing ages? as in, would the neth still die if the climate changed? what would become of the crystal tree? yould it simply shange colour? or would it return to wood / ever burning fire?

i guess this is irrelevant as the player obvously wins, but just some stuff that should probably be worked out

although what if the neth'nakkra wish to gain their new god in order to conquer, so they awaken another age's god from the heart of the mountain in order to do so, kinda a mix. keep your age idea because it explains the god's existance, and make it so its an external influence that awakens it, because the gods are aeons old and they would (i guess so) respect the ballance of the the ages, either that or they would have done this along time ago.

    whatcha think yo yo?

and yes altic is good, well he is neutral but he needs your assistance in order to save the ballance of the ages (and to survive) :P so he leads you, if altic featured to much it would ruin the awe created by its presence and make the end game not as amazing :S but how ever i do like the idea of it helping sometimes, if we made a spell sayyyyyyy (Lightning Storm, Blizzard, or Logia Beam) and made the casting of this spell not by William but remotely cast by Altic, you call for altic's help and the effect of you casting the spell is actually altic doing it. that would be pretty cools ::D

  12. E.G:

Altic's screech is heard, the clouds rumble and a huge voley of lightning crashed to the ground where you cast it

  13. Hmmm ok, i need to be filled in on the ever growing story, is this all on the wiki or something Josh? until then i can just make random suggestions :]

So yeah, to avoid seeing Altic too much. he could have been possibly chained up or confined within the mountain's depth canyon? heart of the mountain, awaiting for you, which you will find it at the end. But until then, it can only communicate to you via thoughts and dreams. but along the way the further you get and the more you do to help it, it can grant you powers? like the flute of Altic? which when played can imitate the call of the Altic and call upon lightening from the sky to be struck down upon wherever you choose!;]
