I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but why not check out the band "Nightwish" as inspiration and possible soundtrack for the project?
They are a mix of metal and fantasy with a classically trained female lead singer. Theirs songs are found on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ "Amaranth" is a good example, and their website is www.nightwish.com
its a good angle to think of things guys, Thanks to Flick for that post. As you are discovering, audio adds a lot to the depth of a game. and a Metal/fantasy theme is not often done for games.
ReplyDeleteWould this be like Final Fantasy and Devil May cry where we would have a sort of soft theme for the general exploring and metal for the battle scenes and things like that?
ReplyDeleteLets not mention Final Fantasy ever again, lest i threaten physical violence.
ReplyDeleteI wasnt saying we make the game like final fantasy..just using reference..
ReplyDeletei haven't put much thought into music yet nightwish seems to set a higher pace i think the sound track should be chosen a little later when we know more about the game. but if the game fits that heavier type of music that could be pretty awesome
ReplyDeleteas for a game reference i was thinking fable or perhaps oblivion maybe
For less heavy Music i would recommend

or

Both of these are heavy Synth but Medieval/Fantasy Themed and sooooooo 80s!,
I love them both
when i said game reference i meant oblivion/fable for game play and star wars clone wars for style also check out the link tim posted for a better look at the game style
ReplyDeleteoblivion features a lot of orchestral and classical stuff. nightwish is a good start, and some of their earlier records feature an better classical singer. within temptation, xandria, and after forever( bit heavier) are similar to nightwish.
ReplyDeleteNice find fliq, i wish i had realised sooner!
Hmmm, not sure if you're still open to suggestions on this specific post, but HIM is a good band to check into. It seems to reflect vividly on your theme throughout the game. A bit different, but i must admit, their mysterious, old world European melancholy sound seems to fit in with the whole style of the game pretty well. Here are some examples.
