My update of the Crocotoise. I changed the tail so it is now smaller. This animal is an attacker and a defender. With its bite powerful enough to tear through flesh it can also go inside of it's shell to defend itself.
This is what happens once it retreats into its shell. There are quils on the reptiles back and as it goes inside it pushes it's back up against the inside of the shell allowing the quills to push through tiny holes on the shell.

I like the thicker spike idea combined with the retracting quills, possibly there could be a poisonous barb on the end of its tail? I don't know, just a suggestion :]
